Here is your chance to get a well-made and affordable automatic mechanical dive watch from Orient Japan - for free. One lucky aBlogtoRead.com reader will win this watch from Orient. The brand makes their own movements and are often very well regarded by their fans. I reviewed with Orient Mako Dive watch here myself previously. Orient takes a lot of pride in their dependable automatic watches and here is your chance to own one. Up for grabs is the special yellow dial version of the Mako Dive watch line. It is the Orient CEM65001Y timepiece. As I understand it, this piece was specially made to celebrate Orient's relationship offering watches on Amazon.com, and is an exclusive color available only there or direct via Orient. There are a number a nice Orient automatic watches I've currently had my eye on such as Orient's CFM00004W, or the CEZ05003B.
Yellow is a nice alternative to orange when looking for a bold looking watch - but this model watch is also available in orange, as well as black or blue dials. The watch is 41mm wide and 13mm thick. The automatic movement has a power reserve of about 40 hours, and the watch case is water resistant to 200 meters. The movement features a day-date complication. The day is adjusted via the pusher above the watch crown. The style is simple and sharp, with a lot of visual durability to be a default watch, or a go-to activity timepiece. The three-link steel bracelet is impressively made given the price range. The Orient CEM65001Y retails for $275. Enter below for your chance to win one this month from aBlogtoRead.com.

Black is definitely my favourite. Basically, because I like a watch that I can wear with clothing, and black goes with everything.
Blue dial, because black/white are too common, and under varying lighting, it can look anywhere from black to a bright electric blue, which is always fascinating to observe.
Black is also my favourite colour as its universal and versatile. However, orange and yellow are pretty cool colours too.
Depends on the watch, but black is always a winner
I’ve always thought the Mako was a good daily wearing diver because of it’s clear, legible dial with numbers, affordable price point and simple bezel and because it’s a day/date. I’d prefer slightly bigger hands, though. I like the yellow, just because it’s different, but orange would be second.
I like black dials particularly with orange numerals/ordinals, but am also fond of antique off white dials like my old Elgin Avigo
black dials are smart
doxa orange makes my heart
tick like a, you know…
I like either black or white. But i don’t pass any dial color, depends on the watch.
I always thought I was partial to white or silver because they go with everything but lately my watches have black faces (?)….I want some color, maybe orange….yellows looking pretty good though, specially on this watch, makes it pop out more which I really like.
I like yellow a lot. It looks nice on a watch.
The blue dial is more distinctive and beautifull.
I have a Blue Mako and love it. Orient watches are very rugged and stylish.
Usually I stick to black, don’t know why but recently few more colors are grabbing my attention.
Because of the spring coming?
White, blue or yello would be so nice for a change.
All black with me, it would be nice to get this one. Ideal summer partner!
I like orange watches, black goes with everything, but orange is the favorite for most non-formal occasions.
I really enjoy all of Orient’s watches. I am the proud owner of several of their timepieces…
Without question black is my favorite dial color. This is because I started out loving the Rolex models when I was younger and many of the classic designs had the black dial. Today most of my divers also have black dials.
A close second color choice for me is yellow. I also like many of the brands that have a yellow dial choice.
Thank you for this wonderful contest.
I have had a black Mako for about 3 years now and it has become a staple in my watch rotation. It’s become that because it’s a nice looking watch and the quality is excellent. I first bought an Orient Make because I love dive watches but also because I like the idea of buying an automatic watch from a company that still makes their own inhouse automatic movements. The Mako has been trouble-free and it wears well with any outfit.
Favourite dial color is on my Certins DS titanium. I guess it’s kind of titanium metallic grey, but the great thing about it is that it has the wonderful aility to pick up and reflect the color of my shirt-sleeves. when blue shirt, it shifts in blue, when green… you get the picture.
Dial color? Black or blue.
Thank you so much for the contect!
Pat
I am a fan of all the colors as I like to coordinate with my outfit for the day. I have a Blue Pepsi Mako and it is a great watch. Right now I could use a red dial or a yellow dial.
It really depends on the watch, in most cases I prefer black dials and black leather straps, however on steel watches I also really enjoy white dials. Sporty watches can have orange or even yellow. However I do not have yet any that “colorful” watch. But I guess it might look awesome with Jeans.
I like a variety of dial colors so that I can coordinate my watch with my clothes for the day. I have a Blue Pepsi Mako and it is a great watch. I could use a red or yellow dial.
I like to wear jeans and I feel the blue dial watches work best for me. I agree the black or white dials are universal, but when I wear an orange or yellow dial they always get noticed.
Easy choice – yellow because it matches my motorcycle
. Thx.
I think my favourite dial colour is either this yellow, Or black as it goes with anything and always looks bold!
Color? Depends:
Dive: orange or yellow for visibility underwater (yes I dive)
Pilot: black for better contrast as night
Everyday: white or silver
I do love the basic black but I find myself going towards orange more often lately because i can easily wear it with black or brown and its very visible more so for me than a white dial.
Black would be the favorite, but I also like a charcoal color
I guess it’s blue – I have mostly black ones – but blue kinda looks sprty and classy
I like black for its contrast
Blue because its always been my favorite color
Yellow looks great with the black bezel
I have black right now on my daily wearer, as it’s worn with a suit most days. While I’m not a huge fan of mixing black and blue, I think it’s fine with a watch face.
I definitely want something either blue or green to be a bit sportier. Yellow would be fantastic too!
I like the Orange on black bezel similiar to a Sieko Monster.
I think this is a bold look for a classic diver watch. The yellow is a nice look as well but I lean toward Orange or white dials.
My Vostok diver has a blue dial and this Orient looks better. I would love to see the lume on these large hands!
Also, Thanks for the contest!
Absolutely Black…its so beautifully strong…
hoping so much with this giveaway…
never had a chance to wear “Orient” Before..
I am usually a fan of black or blue dials for the simple fact that they seem to go with almost everything. However, it seems that lately I have been leaning more toward green or orange, just to switch it up a little.
When shopping for my “first” nice watch, I really wanted a black dial, but wound up with a blue one due to availability and price. I don’t regret the decision. Blue’s grown on me and its definitely my favorite color now a days.
I gotta say it’s black because it goes with everything. But I could easelt go with yellow!
Thanks for the contest
Hey I live in India.I would love to participate in your giveaway if my country is allowed. My favorite colors has to be my lucky colors:Light sky-blue+White or Black+light red+white.
I prefer black-dialed watches for visibility reasons. They are understated and with good lume are easier to see at night.
Thanks to Orient and Ariel Adams for offering another great watch!
I love this watch and I love the yellow dial. It really makes the watch pop.
My favorite bright dial watch that I own is orange, like most of you, because of the Orange Monster.
The most predominant dial colors in my collection would be blue (anything from glacier blue to bright blue) or black.
I think a yellow dial watch would be an awesome compliment to my collection and would certainly be the first yellow dial that I’ve ever owned!
My favorite color would be blue – and that carries over to my watches, as far as dial color goes. That said, I’m not against mixing in another color, should I win this giveaway!
White is my favorite dial color. Versatility for formality, casual, or sporty, based on changing the color of the numerals, hands, etc.
I started out with black dial watches and now I´m really attracted to white dial watches, specially with blue hands. That being said, this yellow dial would be a great way to open my mind to non black/white dials. Great looking watch btw!
Black (or other dark color, such as navy blue) against a light-colored background, and white (or other light color, like cream or light yellow) against a dark-colored background. Or for something in-between…probably black.
Thank you very much for the giveaway!

My favourite dial colour has to be black. White is simple and traditional but perhaps a little too obvious. Black provides good contrast (particularly with luminous numbering), looks classy, and generally goes with everything.
I would also have to say black. However I do have one watch with an orange face that is pretty cool. [The Boy Scouts I work with love it!!]. However, I recently saw the Tissot T-Touch with a yellow face and really liked the appearance of that one as well. I like this Orient watch as the face is very basic, not a lot of chrono dials or buttons[only 2] easy to read, heavy “manly” bracelet and looks well constructed. Also, the price seems very reasonable. It will look good on my wrist!!!!!
Black or White are usually my dial colors. They work with most clothing and strap choices. Although, I often do enjoy wearing a watch with a brightly colored dial;)
Great giveaway! My fave is also the black, because it is timeless ha ha ha. I do like the yellow, it’s my second fave, because it is cheery. But black is the best, it will go with everything and is classic.
I’m really liking the yellow, I do not own any yellow dialed watches. The yellow and black remind me of a bumble bee, I guess spring is in the air.
I prefer black, but Ive always wanted an orange or yellow for summer time. The yellow mako is on my list for sure.
White…because it looks good with ALL nylon/NATO/canvas straps, regardless of color or pattern.
I tend to lean towards blue when looking, but I only have 1 blue-dialed watch. Most of mine are black or white.
I tend to favor darker colors, navy being a favorite. It seems a little less flashy and I like the contrast with a stainless bracelet. That said I am on the lookout for something in white or at least, something not dark.
I had never thought of myself as being someone into more offbeat watch colors (too much a reminder of the Swatch watch craze of my youth) but lately I am warming to the idea. Randy Jackson on American Idol (yes, I watch it with my wife, so what?!) is currently wearing a bright turquoise watch than I am trying to track down.
The yellow and black on the Orient are rather nice.
I hate to be unoriginal but I too am a favor of black. Its simple, elegant and goes well with everything. When I stare at a watch with a black dial, I feel like I just get sucked up into this dark void of beauty.
Thanks for the opportunity!
When you need to look classy and distinguished, there is only one way to go, and that is BLACK.
I however, am not classy OR distinguished, so I love a bold color on my watchface, like orange or yellow.
Which is why I like this watch so much….
I like black or white. It looks cool and you can always wear it no matter if you use suit or t-shirt. It’s also a colors that make it easy to read.
I really enjoy my orange faced Seiko diver, but it can only go with so much. I have black, blue, green, red, white, brushed steel, and gold faced watches. It all depends on the situation.
Black is my favorite! …at least it is right now. I tend to change what I find appealing in a watch face from time to time!
Personally the easiest choice for me would be a black dial because over the long haul I wouldn’t get tired of it. That being said if I had to chose a second color, I would lean towards a slate grey, understated yet classy. The yellow of the Orient diver is fun and really pops, with the black bezel it takes on a kind of bumblebee quality.
for this watch, i like yellow, it keeps it from being another rolex copy
I prefer black and yellow dials. Love the sporty look provided by yellow dials and the overall versatility provided by black dials. Others are nice but for me Yellow and Black are the best options.
It looks interesting. Until recently I’d not considered non-swiss watches. After your article on the Ananta watches, I check out and bought a spring drive gmt. Great watch.
Orient interests me as well as Seiko. I’d like to try one of these and will probably buy– if I don’t win, of course!
Hey Ariel, I just finished a marathon listening session of your Hour Time podcasts over the past 2 days. You dudes are a blast to listen to. I’m going to get a Seiko black monster now for sure.
In the interim, I’d love to receive this Orient watch, with the limited edition yellow face. Thanks a lot for doing what you do.
I like both white and black due to versatility with any clothing. Bright colors look cool, but white and black are timeless.
I do love a black dial and have quite a few of them in my collection. I’ve never seen a yellow dial “in the metal” but after seeing the photo of this one I’ll gladly make an exception and wear it proudly.
I have a lot of black-faced watches, but for some reason I always end up wearing my Orange monster. There’s something about large watches with bright-colored faces that grabs people’s attention. Even my Panerai-wearing colleague steals a glance or two!
Hope this grabs your attention too.
Nice.
Since I’ve worked a lot in the field, I’ve limited myself to a Timex Exploration all these years. After finding this blog, I’ve expanded my interest in watches. I was immediately attracted to the inky black face of the Magrette Moana Pacific. Black means serious design for me. While the watch is minimalist, the contrasting black face with a Panerai-like presentation gives it a distinguishable look – somewhat formal but with a nod towards the outdoorsman. I am also fond of the Orange Monster to mix it up a bit. The orange face says one is not afraid to stand out a bit and the workmanship indicates a desire for quality. The fact it’s an Orange Monster says I can have a quality timepiece without the bling bling. Having a yellow Orient Mako? Well, that would be just too much fun!
OK Black – To me it is more “tool” watch like. i like the idea of a watch serving its purpose and black just looks that way to me. Of course most of my watches are black and maybe I am due for a change? Now you have me thinking about this…. I will have to get back to you….
I absolutely love black dials as well. They can go with just about anything you wear and they are very appealing to the eye.
i would have to say its a close tie between black an orange…….i love black because it goes with anything, and as others have said, has the “tool” look to it, but orange is one of my favorite colors period, and i love orange faced watches just because they are different, my favorite orange dialed watch is the zodiac oceanaire, …….thanks for the contest, great giveaway…..
I like the white dials. It just looks classy and I am very classy. LOL
Nice watch! I like my watches witha black dial. Goes with anything and just looks cool. But I do love me some yellow or orange too.
I LOVE this watch. I have been looking at it for a long time.
Great contest, thanks for the chance! I would have to say a black or yellow dial would be best for me. The bacl is classic and goes w/ everything, and the yellow is super-legible. My son (11) is currently wearing a Seiko 5 and beginning to appreciate mechanical watches. He’s be out of his mind if we won this.
In this type of watches (divers) i prefer the orange dial and/or red
Orange, got to love orange. It is a bold color that is easily visible.
Nice clean look to this watch. I find the dial very legible and like that it isn’t fussed up with a chronograph complication. My favourite colour would be an orange dial on a dive watch. This has to go back to my love of Doxa dive watches. I really appreciate that classic style that hasn’t changed over the years. I still hope for a SUB750 to show up under my Christmas tree one of these years!
I like a yellow dial best, just have always like it! THanks!
I like Red on watch dials. but there are very few watches that come with this color and find Carbon fibre is my next color choice. I only have on diver which I just picked up a Formex DS 2000 with a silver dial. I do not own a yellow that I feel would look great on my arm. Thanks
I’m missing a diver in my collection.
I have allways liked the Orient brand.
I would go for the on with a yellow dial.
I love white dials and orange hands. Right now, divers are my preferred watch. Regarding this Mako – they get great reviews online, and I love the fact that they make their own movements
Yellow looks good, especially with the metal bracelet. Standing out yet understaded.
Good looking, reasonably priced watches. Thanks to the positive review, I’ve been thinking of picking one up. I really like the blue dial. For me it would be a nice alternative to the more expensive Omega Seamasters, which are out of my price range at the moment. Thanks for the good work on the site, keep it up.
I have this thing for yellow watch dials–I have not figured that out. Somehow, orange or red seem a bit garish, but the yellow is a bit more subtle, but interesting since it is something other than the usual black, white or blue. Why not green? Don’t care for it. Yellow is the color of my true watch’s face…
Basically, anything blue or orange. Not really because they’re aesthetically pleasing, but because they remind me of the famous Gulf oil livery on the Porsche 917.
Love blue or black dials. never really liked white, but now i am getting into them. Also love anything with a guillauche or texture, something interesting. yellow looks great though!
Definitely black for everyday wear, but I would like to pick up an orange dial watch as well. The Mako watch has a nice look to it with the brushed steel and yellow dial though.
I’ve only owned watches with Black, White, or Blue dials. I usually gravitate towards Black, although in divers watches I do like color like in the Seiko Orange Monster or this Yellow dialed Orient. With the stainless steel and the black dial the Orient manages to pull off a very classy look.
A very well made watch that is priced right. Love the yellow.
I would have to say black or white dials, depending upon the watch. Black can cover the spectrum – classic to sporty. Would love to try yellow!
Black.because it goes with anything. And a blue dial for weekend wear.
This is definitely a watch I’ve been wanting to buy. But of course winning it is even better. My favourite dial colour is still black, although a deep dark blue is very nice as well.
The yellow Orient Diver watch looks good and wouldn’t turn it away given the opportunity to have one but I find the new Breitling B01 blue face with black sub-dials and silver markers to be a good looking watch. It gives the face a contrast that gives you readability without boring you. Good Luck everyone,,,
Yellow or orange or red for sports/divers watch. These colors make the watch easier to spot and readable. That’s why they use yellow, orange, and red for life vests, coast guard planes, uniforms and other rescue/survival gears.
I like basic black like most everyone but my favorite is a deep blue. I enjoy the contrast with the blue dial quite a bit.
My heart lies with silver and black, but I also like white on occasion. I’ve found, though, that colored dials do grab a lot of attention! Yellow would be a fun one to try.
I think the yellow pops – kinda cool to wear it with a dark formal suit – nice juxtaposition of styles
Black, it’s the most versatile.
It’s got to be a yellow Mako for a cool new Mako-ver!
Yellow is my favorite face color. I love divers in orange and yellow. They are also most functional at depth. These are made to go underwater and all, right?
I love the Mako, and have been looking at it for a while.
I currently have a Planet Orient and really love the orange. However, I’m really liking the yellow Mako as well!
Nice giveaway yet again, great watch
A dark blue is my favorite color. I find it very relaxing to look at.
I have to say it is MATT BLACK. It is so easy to read – especially if I can have nice lumed hands and a red/orange second hand. If there are sub dials then those hands must be red/orange too.
Second favourite is Organge – nothing better than a good value Seiko Orange Monster to start the weekend.
My favorite watch dial color has always been “White” up until recently. I’ve been looking at both “Blue” and “Yellow” watch dail colors lately, I guess its a lifestyle change thing.
Black is a standard, but I do like Orange for a change of pace and a splash of color (Orange Monster for me so far). I find that I am also better able to read the dark/colored faces over white faces.
I think yellow makes a statement, and being a diving watch it also would not look out of place.
my favorite face color is carbon fiber. i love that stuff!
Red! other colors are so omnipresent. nearly everyone has a black or blue, whites and silvers are also very popular yellows and orange are more on the fringe but seriously how often do u see a red face watch?
My personal favorite dial color scheme is a black face, with white hands and indices, with red highlights. It makes for a very readable watch. For example, the Sinn U1 is a favorite, or the Seiko Brightz SAGH005 – both are basically black and white, but the red highlight adds interest.
Like a lot of people on here, however, I love the Orange Monster, and on a dive watch, I think orange, light blue, and yellow are great.
This watch appears to have a lot going for given the $275.00 retail price.
I own both a blue and orange dial watch, and I would have to say that I wear my blue dial watch the most. However, I attract more attention when I wear my Seiko Orange Monster.
White and Orange are my favorite.
My CFT00006W looks great with white face.
white; it seems to go with everything!
I would go with orange as my favorite face dial. This is mainly because Orange is my favorite color. I currently do not own any watches with dials that are not the standard black/white (except for my Mickey watch). I think Orange pops great… and the Yellow on this watch is also fantastic.
I like the Orient watches, good value and quality watches. Personally, I like a blue dial, cool and low key and visually pleasing. This article does justice to Orient watches.
I’m going to say brown. Not common on dials, but it has a retro flair and goes with everything. Just saying…
what fantastic odds. I love it. Black is the best back, unless I’m on Sesame Street and my name is Big Bird, in which yellow is there by appropriate.
I am really partial to my Grandfather’s silver faced dress watch. I have a couple of bands that I can swap out and wear it with anything.
Brown just looks great…it’s unusual and striking – esp with a little texture thrown in!
-N
I own a orange Mako. It is very comfortable to wear and is very legible.
Orient makes great watches. I have four. Black dials are my default color because black goes with everything. I also have blue and silver dialed watches. A yellow Mako would be a nice addition to my collection.
Black is favorite. easy to read and great for evening. Blue face is daytime color
I have been looking at a number of watches as a replacement for my battered and scratched Frank Ghery Fossil watch. I have been looking for the past two months. During this time, I have found that a dark Navy Blue such as the Citizen Calibre 3100, Black in the MIH styled watch face and the White Mondaine watches all present a great watch face to read and be proud of.
-Simon
Black for work, orange for fun, white for formal occasions… and actually yellow isn’t too bad either!
I think there is a fine line between a classic/stylish watch and a boring/played-out watch. While a Rolex Submariner is a classic and very stylish no matter who or where you are, most divers with either identical, knock-off or similar style can be disregarded as boring or a “wanna-be”.
Enter a solid, automatic, tasteful and colorful watch. I love a simple, solid yellow or orange face watch on a classic style of watch such as an Orange Monster (recently purchased) or this yellow Orient. I love how these face colors can accent my attire with sometimes more power than pocket square, tie or even shirt. Even casually, these colors can really show a conscience effort to be bold and I find a nice reason to check the time more often.
My favorite watch dial version of the Orient Mako is the black version. It’s classic and goes with any outfit.
I think I really prefer the simplicity of a white dial, but am open to more colorful dials. I also really like my husband’s Orange Monster, it’s just really cool. I think the yellow dial would be an awesome addition to his collection!
Yellow is my favorite color! Is a color that reminds me of sunny days and joy
Blue, blue, blue is a great watch dial color, although orange on a diver is tough to ignore. I am looking for the best blue for my next watch right now.
I think the black is classy as all get out, but the blue watch is the way to go since I’ve already got a black-faced diver.
I have a black Mako which is fine for dress purposes. A snazzier color for casual wear would be much appreciated!
I would like this yellow watch because it is my friends favorite color and I would give it to him
I like blue
I love the simple classic design of the Orient Diver. The legebility looks to be excellent. The bracelet and lume are of a quality not usually found at this price point, and really enhances both the quality and feel of this watch, as least from what I can see in the pictures.
I would love to own and wear an Orient Mako, and although Orange is my 1st choice, Yellow is wonderful as well.
It always depends on mood and occasion. But for a formal every day watch the preference is white.
Blue, goes with anything. Darker = classier. Lighter = fun. Also like grey. Has a good presence with a
small bit of a contrasting color
Nice watch, looks heafty and solid. I would love this watch.
Love the Orient watches. Great value for the money and great looking to boot. I like black the best as it gives most watches the go-with-everything-look. However it is nice that more than one colour is available to suit many tastes.
Basic black. Black watches go with everything. They can be made to look dressy or casual. More importantly they are usually much easier to read.
YELLOW! is my favorite color
when you put it on it feels like you are going to have a good time.
well I also enjoy blue, orange, white, creme, and black as well.
I always seem drawn to black faced watches. They just look more technical and rugged, I suppose.
Although, the yellow on the Orient could grow on me. Judging from the pictures, it doesn’t appear to be too neon…looks a bit softer than some yellows I’ve seen. Anyway, hope I get a chance to experience it first hand. Thanks for the opportunity!
My favorite color is orange because it reminds me of the spring all year round I also like blue and black too
I think overall my favorite has to be cream. I just find it to be a nice, elegant, a bit classic color…a good a reason as any, i should think.
cheers!
My red and yellow dials get the most attention from other people. My favorite is probably blue. Black is the easiest to read. White looks more expensive. I have 46 watches
I do not have an extensive collection of watches (yet), just 13 in all. So i thought that the easieast way to answer this question would be to survey my collection and see what i tend to buy most when it comes to dial color and watch style. When i looked i was disappointed to see just how bland and predictable my taste really is. 10 out of the 13 wathes are own are divers (2 chronos and 1 pilot are the others), and 11 out of the 13 have black dials (1 orange and 1 yellow)…not much variety, but at least I am consistent. Nothing beats a classic black dialed dive watch; though clearly I am slightly biased. Thanks for the great read…love this site.
I think orange has become my favorite color. My first Orient was an orange Mako which has now become the watch that I wear 4 or 5 days a week. I’ve since boughten two more Orient watches, one of which is the black Mako that should be arriving by the end of this week. I’ll probably pick up the blue Mako as well. I’ve been considering the yellow Mako ever since I discovered the Orient brand, but have went with the other colors so far since they’ve been less expensive. Orient is quickly becoming my favorite watch brand so hopefully luck is on my side with this contest!
Cheers!
I really like black for versatility, but also white for dressiness, creme for sophistication, yellow or orange for fun, and even brown for something different.
I like orange dials the best. They are not very practical but I *love* wearing them. I owned an Orange Mako but it just didn’t speak to me so I sold it. Hopefully the Yellow Mako will be a keeper.
I have had watches with a white or black dial before. But a yellow dial looks really good to me.
I’d say at the moment, my favorite dial color is blue. I am pretty conservative when it comes to watches, and mostly only own black, white, and silver. My wife got me a blue dialed chronograph recently, and although it was something I’d probably never buy myself, I think it has really made me realize what I had been missing without much color in my watch collection.
White.
Clean looking, stands out and matches with anything I wear.
white/ cream for dress and black/Orange for sport
I currently wear my white dial watch the most. I often dress rather dressy and it looks very good with it.
I wear my titanium dive watch with a white face as my daily watch, but a distinctive orange like the Seamaster makes for a great watch. One fo the few places where a fairly conservatively dressed guy can add a bold splash of color.
I find black to be the most elegant, especially with either steel, silver or white gold.
Red is my favorite color so I like most red dials. I also love White dials.. Funny tho I do not have any of those dial colors in my collection. Black and blues.. I need more colors lol..
Orange is definitely my favorite one. Thanks for the blog.
I almost always prefer black dials because I think that they are by far the most versatile dials out there, plus I am a big fan of the contrast look you get when you put white numerals on a black dial.
White dials are my favorite because the contrast of dark lettering on a white dial just makes them very easy to read.
Yellow or orange. 200m. I’m ready to go deep!
I always prefer black or a dark gray dial. Although I’ve been thinking of getting a white dial.
ORANGE! It wakes you and keeps you going, just like orange juice!
Jokes aside: orange as the color is simply the best color for watches! It stands out instead of the many other “standard” colors!
i really like the yellow. I own a white faced Orient and it is stunning. this style watch is is very classic!
I like to wear a blue faced dial as it matches my eyes and I tend to wear jeans alot.
My favourites are black with interesting hands/bezel for everyday wear, and vibrant orange for fitting occasions.
My favorite color for a watch dial, if giving it little thought, would be black or dark gray. Lighter colours, such as beige/creme are mellower & classier in my view, but I like having multiple watches to go with the different daily activities & evening requirements.
I personally like black or blue, as they are my favorite colors. And they look nice in watches too!
Like the stylistic ‘little black dress’ the black dial is both unassuming and stylish, ideal for every-day, work, special-event wear.
Personlly I prefer the black dial accented with a contrasting dash of colour on the hands or the figures.
Remember folks: fashion fades, style remains.
I like the new rich Browns or Cognac colors that the new watches are coming in. They look black, but when the light hits them, you see that they are really brown. Tag Heuer, Gucci, Rolex watches have some beautiful brown dial colors.
My favorite color would be orange because I have several watches in blue, black, and white. I have also heard that orange is the last color your eyes see in the dark when diving (although I haven’t been able to find research to back that).
An opportunity to add to my collection of “inspired by” watches, choice!
Orange is my favorite dial color for this type of casual watch. The orange dial color pays homage to the primary color of my alma mater, The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
My favorite is a beautiful blue, but ultimately any color done in a unique way gets my vote!
My favorite watch dial color is blue. It is elegant and contrasts well with the hands on most watches making it very readable.
I’m an orange dial man. Perfect for standing out in the boardroom.
I have a black mako and I must say it is one of my favorites. It’s very solid, substantial feeling and I receive compliments on it all the time. I think my favorite dial color is orange though. It just seems to work so well as a watch dial color. Just enough splash to stand out, but muted enough to wear with any clothes.
But I’d love to have a yellow one to add to the collection!
Black or White cuz it’s classy.
I could use a rugged watch
The Blue Mako is my all time favourite. Its my first diver and love amongst all the rest that I have. The blue reminds me of the sea and its vastness. Venturing into the dark realms of Poseidon I found the beauty of my Black Mako. As I surface I see the sunlight shimmering among the waves like the Yellow Mako, welcoming the light of the day after the sojourn into the belly of the oceans.
I’m spotting a trend here. In danger of sounding repetitive, I’d also have to say black for the common reason that it goes with everything.
An honorable mention is a black dial with white markings face covered by an amber crystal that I own. It’s a boring quartz watch, but I love staring at that face through the amber.
Blue is my favorite dial color because it makes my eyes pop.
I love a glossy white dial, very classy- like piano keys.
Love the yellow! It’s different, and stands out from the crowd.
I like a black watch dial for my recreational watches, and a white dial for more formal watches. Whats most important is for a dial and hand combination to “scream” the time at you. On my black dials I also like a hint of orange, such as an orange second hand.
Blue is my favorite color overall–so a blue dial is pleasant on my eyes, and matches most of my wardrobe to boot.
My favorite color for a dial is black. I guess I’m a little different, I like black numbers on a black dial. Stealth over readability!
Black. Easier to read.
i bought the orange mako as a weekend watch. but i have liked it so much that it has replaced my white-face office watch. orange is it!
I love this watch with an orange dial !
Why ? Because the true diver watches are with orange dial (that’s not the truth but my opinion) !
Hi – Glad I stumbled across your site from twitter.
I like http://www.orientwatchusa.com/watch.php?id=93 for my DH. It looks like something he would wear.
MY personal fave is YFHAB001B but I think he would prefer the other one. I like this one because it has a different face and is modern / stylish
it used to be white, or black, to be safe. but after owning the orient blue mako, blue is definitely an option now.
This watch is perfect as shown. I’m looking forward to wearing it. Thank you Ariel.
Classic black for me. As stated many times above, it is simply more versatile, fashion-wise.
I like the blue pepsi mako. The blue dial has a glossy lacquer finish which almost looks black at times, and the blue/red combo on the bezel provides nice contrast.
I like the shimmering blue dial on the Pepsi Mako and also the Yellow Mako appeals to me, also black dials are always a favorite as they look so rich.
I like the blue pepsi combo, This looks like a true diver. The yellow would be a second choice as it is very visable both in and out of the water.
Can’t go wrong with black, especially when you only have on watch.
Yellow Mako for me. I already own a black one, and the yellow version would be a great summer watch.
black definitely. but the blue is also nice…
Blue or black dial for a sports watch in general. (Orange dial for certain diver watches.) Black is action and stealth as well as class. Blue is male confidence. Orange is improved visibility underwater.
White dial for a dress watch. White is neutral and classy. It also stands out better in dimly lit lounge or restaurant environment.
Blue or Black Mako is my favorite.
Favorite face colors can be very subjective and depends on many styles incorporated into the watch such as the applied chapter, hands, complications, etc. Face flavors, for myself, could be mother of pearl, cotes de geneve, guilloche, skeletonization, and many other variables…or simply…hmmm, maybe champagne?
love to color, very easy to read. the blue mako is also quite a stunner
The Black Mako color dial is my most favorite! i love the black bezel on black dial which gives the watch a very handsome and austere look.
The blue is also stunning as it shimmers in the right light
I have the black dial version but this yellow dial is definitely stunning!
I like black watch dials best because that color just goes with everything you wear, and it is easy to see black dials
My favorite has always been white, cream or silver. The light colored dials seem to be complemented so good with the numbers on the dial.
I like the blue watch dials best because I like a watch to stand out, but also match and blue goes with just about anything.
heather.birkman@gmail.com
I like the yellow and silver! Thanks for the giveaway! Paula
I’m a fan of a Black dial with a Burnt Orange bezel, much like on the CFM00002B. But for a dive watch I really like the Orange face. Brighter colors are great to have while underwater.
I like black because it goes with everything and every occasion. I just ordered a blue dive watch to have a little color variety in my collection.
I like the look of this watch a lot! I normally prefer a black face, but yellow or orange would be different and I think look really nice, so let’s say yellow.
I suppose my favorite is matte black, evidenced by the number of watches I own with that color dial. I also have a metallic yellow Orient 200m diver that is a fantastic color. Orange is also a favorite, but matte black rules.
Black is my favorite for dress, and blue for sport. But a yellow watch? Sure! I’d wear it with style and pride.
White ! Its a very peacefull and visible colour . You can see the watch even when it is dark .
Other good colours away from the main topic are shiney electric blue ,gren and yellow to red . Everything shiney !But my fav is still white .
My favorite is a golden brown. Not all too common, but classy.
Black is my favourite. Like the Style!
Kind regards, Sven
I love a pale silvery blue color face – I just think it looks soothing and it matches perfectly with my work uniform! LOL
i had a mako a while ago. very well made watch for the price. nice bracelet, in house automatic movement. one of the best bang for a buck watches around. now only if they could change the bezel from a 60 click to 120 click one.
Black dial is my favorite. Classic and stylish.
Black, Silver and Orange are my favorite dials. I had a blue automatic Orient tha I purchased in 1993 (don’t remember the model). It survived my relocation from USSR to the US. I worn it all the time until until 2005 when I gave it to my kid who lost it. It was by far my and his favorite watch. Unfortunately that model is no longer in production.
This watch is incredibly awesome, and I absolutely love the color. A nice bright yellow would make anyone’s wrist stand out in a crowd. It’s great to see some more options to the obvious black, silver and gold.
I love green, I hope they offer a green one, I will buy one in a heart beat.
Red! Red on black will be awesome!
My favorite face is none at all – let me see the skeleton of the watch with all of the working gears under a nice sapphire crystal.
I bought the CFM00002b Burt Orange and my wife the lady rose. We both love our Oreint watches.
I used to like black with white numbers and hands but it seems that my taste has changed to the opposite lately in silver or white dial with dark numerals. I think its more about contrast and ease of readability than anything else.
I personally like a dark purple or a dark red. I’ve just really liked those colors because they just make you think of the idea of royalty, and who doesn’t like to be treated like so? A classic black dial with glowing white hands work any day too.
Black is great just because it will match with any outfit and looks sleek. However, I think that yellow is a great color because it’s a warm, uplifting color. I look at my watch all the time, seeing a nice cheery color would be great.
While my favorite dial color is black, the yellow does look nice on this Orient watch.
Black
thanx
My favorite dial color is probably black or white. Those are fairly traditional dial colors, but they are simple enough that they look good in almost any situation. I do enjoy yellow and blue dials, and I’m a big fan of sunray dials or mother of pearl.
Thanx for this opportunity
I love the yellow/black configuration in the display watch and would be proud to wear such a timepiece.
These colours stand out of a day and I currently don’t have the yellow face in my collection having red black blue white and silver
Orient makes great mechanical watches! And yellow is my favorite!
a dark grey color because black white and blue can be cliche and all other colors can be a bit crazy or hard to match with clothes. having said that… most of my watches are blackfaced
I prefer either black or grey/silver backgrounds for their visual simplicity. When wearing a watch I don’t necessarily want something that is going to draw to much attention to my wrist. A watch is a tool and a mechanical work of art but not a fashion statement.
My favorite dial colors are blue and red although my collection is only beginning so I have started with a few more traditional (white / black) dial watches. As I grown the collection I will certainly look to add more color and more unique pieces.
Black is very classic and goes with everything but can be kinda boring. Yellow or orange make a statement and still go very well with the watch and I would go with them.
I enjoy citrus divers, especially Seiko’s orange monster!
The blue dial is very classy.
I like it alot.
Combined with that red-tipped seconds hand I think that is the nicest combo.
Thanks for this opportunity.
Silver/grey dial is my favorite.
Looks great on black/brown leather and blends with steel bracelet.
Black comes in pretty close as second.
Somehow, it always seems like it gives a stronger “statement”.:)
Beautiful watch
I plan on starting a collection of automatics soon.
I’ve had black because it’s easy to match with almost everything I wear BUT i love to look at orange divers and how about a beautiful blue dialled diver? I love colours and Orient makes some beautiful blue and orange watche
Orange is my favorite face color. I work for a company whose main corporate color is orange so I’m a company advocate when I wear a watch with an orange face.
This would make a great summer watch with the stand out yellow face.
Thanks
Stainless Steel and deep blue or black is always going to be classy… however, there are times when you want a bright/bold dial. Weekends with a ball cap, jeans and a t-shirt for example. There is never a good time to NOT wear a watch, in my opinion of course, so I firmly believe the one should own a minimum of two time pieces
Blue and black are my favorite colors, but yellow is very nice for the summer!
Nice watch, this Orient!
Yellow dial is the best for diving…. and for sporty dressing.
My favorite dial is White with blue inscriptions, white because it is always easy to read it and with white you would never get bored of seeing it again again. Many combination are possible with white and lots of design ideas can fit white without thinking twice. So when it comes to dial it should be white for me.
AkshayB
Just came over from Gizmodo. I’ve been shopping for a watch with yellow accents and this is exactly the one I was thinking of buying. Yellow is great because it stands out from the rest and makes a bold statement.
You cannot go wrong with black, its the most versatile. I personally love blue faced Rolex submariners(steel or white gold). There is something about that style and color that gets me!
Ben
I would have to opt for the blue dial, my favorite color and music genre.
I really like black but also like blue, silver, and white; and think that yellow would be a great color with which one could change things up a bit, adding a little pop or accent, which is why I would love to win this one. Please pick me!
Yellow dial is the bomb!
So many divers are black, blue or even red and orange. The yellow opens up new possibilities and is absolutely perfect for smart casual and sporty wear. The Orient watch giveaway is a treat! Thanks for the chance!
Black for me. Goes well with active, casual and formal wear.
I like yellow for shallow diving…fair light and black for low light to no light diving.
Yellow or Orange dials are #1 for me! Works perfectly on a beautiful sunny day at the beach or can brighten up any rainy day! Must admit though, not enough green dial watches available.
I’m a big fan of white because it stands out and pops. After that Black due to the fact that it goes with everything.
Black is my most popular but I have a yellow Orient 300m and its amazing.
I like Blue dials on divers, c’mon. They’re supposed to go in the ocean. Besides there are different shades of blue. Ooh, add a light blue sharky strap. Cool.
I own a blue Pepsi Mako, a Dolphin and also several vintage models. Excellent quality and very much a big-time “best bang for your buck” watch. Next on the list are the orange and yellow dial, both with killer looks
Black is my favorite color, next dark blue, then blue. Readability is the most important thing. Legible arabic numbers or demarked indices with lume and big hands with good lume are also nice.
Complications like dates, chrono functions and Power reserve are nice only when done well and subdued to the main purpose of a watch, i.e., telling time. Busy watches are unnecessary watches.
I generally always like black dials on a diver, but I especially like the colors blue and yellow for the right watch.
Blue ties in nicely because of the ties to the ocean, and yellow is fun and bold.
Black is my first choice because it wears good with any color shirt I might wear. For a more sporty look I would go for an orange dial.
I have owned 3 Mako’s and the blue is definitely my favorite. Depending on the lighting the face can appear anywhere between black and iridescent blue.
The yellow dial with black bezel is definitely nicely…very sporty and ready for a dive trip to the South Pacific!
White is my favourite colour. Its clean and classic, and suits everything day or night.
I have had my eye on a blue Mako for a while, but the yellow sure looks great as well
I love this watch, although I dont own one, but maybe I will one day. Yellow would be my favorite color for the dial because it seems to really stand out and I love the color.
The black dial would be my first choice, because its easy to read and a very clean look, although you cant go wrong with blue either.
I love a sleek black dial. Its always chic and cool looking.
Green would be my favorite because it shows up well.
I like black because I think it’s the easiest to read
Dark blue is by far my favorite. Although I do Like a black face with a silver bezel or vice versa. Usually I prefer the other colors such as orange and yellow to be in the watch band rather than the face.
I like a classic white or black dial…black for more sporty or casual and white for that nice dress look.
With the Yellow, black is a complimentary color, which can be seen well in any lighting. If I am chosen my hubby will love this! Good luck to everyone and thank you for such a lovely offer! Hugs Tylicia
Very Cool dial and it’s mechanical, too. Very Nice.
I just bought a watch with a yellow face because I wanted some more color in my collection of about 17 watches. I am partial to the mid to high range watches, I find them an expression of my mood of the day. Orange would be another “happy” color I would love to own. My weakness is collecting watches, albeit expensive.
I tend to favor black dials, with high-contrast white, yellow, or orange details. But I think the reverse is also a good combo.
I own a blue Mako and an Seiko Orange Monster and I suppose for me , in dive watches anything goes as far as the dial is concerned.
Black is boring in a sporting watch and I tend to reserve that, white and grey for the more dressy timepieces.
I would love this special addition “Yellow Mako” (hey, check out my user name!) not only as a unique and welcome addition; I also feel that Orient watches are a superb value with interesting designs and quality builds.
I find I often recommend them as a great “first” watch for those ready to take the plunge from quartz to autos.
Thanks Orient and Ariel for this opportunity!
I’ve always liked black face watches, however this “Yellow Mako” watch looks awesome! Knowing that Orient is one of the finest made watches in the world, this watch would make a find edition to my watch collection.
The BLACK face of my Rolex is my favorite color. I think that the yellow on this Orient watch could become a second favorite
I’m torn between the yellow, and my other favorite Mako, the blue dial with blue/red “pepsi” bezel. Both are much less common than the usual black or white/silver. The blue/red bezel is great for those that use the timing feature of a rotating bezel as I do. However, a Mako with a yellow dial just reminds me of a sports car. Yellow is my favorite color for Porsche and Ferrari (not that I’ll ever own either!). Yellow is sporty and bold. For those that would choose black because it can be worn with any outfit I say, get more watches! Women have their shoes. We can have our watches!
I have a selection of watches, but no Orients, yet. There are many folks in a watch Forum that I belong to (BDWF.net) that own one of these beauties. I love their orange and yellow dials because they stand out while wearing them, but I think any color dial would look smart on this model.I heard from others how rugged these watches are and that the quality is superb for the money.
I’ve always been partial to white and silver dials. They both pretty much go with anything, and ALWAYS catch my eye when watch spotting…Yellow would be a close second, but good for me only in sporting situations…such as swimming or diving! ;o)
I love black dials, it is the most versatile color. It can be dressed up or dressed down.
Black is the nicest, bold and slick at the same time.
Black is my favorite dial color because of its striking simplicity, but I also like Orange, but this yellow is very striking.
Yellow – it reminds me of Yellow Ducati motorcycles and late 60′s early 70′s Dodge muscle cars. Yellow is speed and power.
Orient; sexy, affordable and functional. 200m water resistance, day/date complication with day change pusher, elegant and solid steel link bracelet with triple-locking clasp, rotating bezel, handsome profile and lume markers to top it off. Orient smashed it out of the park with this one. What more could a man ask for?
I prefer silver/titanium color dials. They’re better looking than plain white dials but still go with any clothing unlike black dials.
My favourite watch dial color is Black because in my opinion it looks very sporty.
Definitely yellowed ivory or off-white dials. The look is classic and goes with everything. And it gives a certain vintage flair to modern watches.
My favorite dial color would be a black/white combination because it’s really legible and very traditional. Having said that, I can also appreciate dive watch dials with yellow or orange… really sporty. The color contrast on this particular watch is extremely legible and great looking to boot.
I like Orient Mako Diver Watch with the gold yellow dial version.
One can see it optically very clear and elegant.
Affordable price and ideal for all ages.
Orange – Reminds me of the good old days windsurfing with the Promaster.
I don’t own many watches, but in my short time shopping and researching, I have to say that my favorites are a toss-up between blue and silver.
i you’d have to say orange or red, no particular reason other than it makes me skip a hearth beat when i get one of those on my wrist.
In search for a watch for my husband, I have seen this Orient Mako Diver Watch.
I personally like the yellow color, which will fit his cloths, but I think he likes black dial.
Anyway, a simple classic design, easy to read and a affordable price.
Black is my favorite color dial for two reasons.
1. Aesthetically, I think it looks the best — dressy and sharp.
2. Financially it is a binus, in the sense that black dials are most in demand so one can generally re-sell easier.
Yellow is my next favorite color dial — I think it is highly legible and stands out.
I get bored with Black…so I like YELLOW and ORANGE! They just pop and demand attention!!
I have the slightly larger Mako II in black, and it is becoming my favourite diver. I cannot believe the accuracy of the movement – almost chronometre grade I think. I prefer black dials for the classic look, but dark blue would be a close second, followed by white. However, I have always thought I should try something different and get a watch with a yellow or orange dial. So, why not start with this limited edition yellow Mako?
I’m partial to a pepsi dial. Blue is my favorite colour, and Orient does a really nice iridescent blue.
I would love to win an Orient. I personally have an Omega Seamaster and a few Tags, but I’d love to personally see the quality in automatic watches coming out of new markets.
Thanks!
i like watches with blue, black dials with blue and orange luminous hand. I like this combination because it looks sporty and can be worn with anything.
This is my favorite Mako but I can’t get myself to shell out an additional $85 just for the yellow dial. I assume the good people at Orient are reading these comments too, correct? Maybe you (they) can explain why the yellow Mako is $275 whereas all the other ones are $190
I think blue is very classy.
BLACK, ALWAYS, THE CLASSIC LOOK OF THE DIVER WATCHES. IF IT IS FREE; ANY COLOR IS PERFECT, HA!
I really prefer the blue, but have plenty of room in my watch box for all of them.
I would go with either the yellow or the blue, You cannot beat the quality for the price.
Black for me.It fits to almost all
I THINK A WATCH MAKES A STATEMENT ABOUT THE PERSON WEARING IT. IF IT’S AN ORIENT IT ALREADY PROJECTS QUALITY AND VALUE. I LIKE YELLOW BECAUSE IT IS POWER COLOR. I WOULD TO PROJECT THAT I AM A POWER PERSON WHO LIKES QUALITY AND VALUE.
I really love a navy blue face with a matching leather strap, as in this beautiful Orient: http://www.orient-watch.com/product/sporty_automatic/cft00001b.html
I’ve always liked blue faced watches, it’s fairly neutral and goes with just about everything.
black for any occasion, and blue/yellow for divers…not a big fan of orange(s)
I always liked blue dials. However, I am much more concerned with the overall design of the watch than the dial color.
At the moment it would be blue: haven’t got a blue faced watch yet.
SIlver is a nice color for a watch and some golden accents make it very fancy too.
I’m also a big fan of blue faced watches. Hunter green is also a good choice.
White. I work for a bank and usually wear dark suits and white shirts, so white watchfaces just blend in so nicely. I usually wear a nicely designed Skagen watch (citizen innards) and it looks superb
My favourite watch dial clour is black. I love black dial with combination of silver watch band.
Well let’s be frank, it’s a dive watch and that dial should stand out. This is why I like the yellow dial. If you’re diving with it it should ‘pop’ and not be hard to read. As well if you’re not diving with it, the dial should reflect the sporty design of the watch itself. Yellow is genrally associated with high performance cars so it’s just natural to see that colour on a performance watch. That water resistance, at that price, and an automatic just exclaims Bold Value!
Black dial/big lumed white hands.
The more readable the better
Basic black – goes with almost anything.
The Orient looks cool. Simple, functional which I like.
2 colors I prefer in order:
White – its super functional and clean and crisp, works in numerous situations.
Green – unique and full of character, not the normal or obvious choice, good to stand out in a crowd
I like dial colors that make the time piece easy
to read. The classic colors; black, blue and white are favorites of mine. The yellow color dial on the Orient watch pictured would be another good choice.
Thanks much.
excellent watch in excellent price……. after watching the review of above watch in yellow dial finally i am able to convince my self that its time for some change. any next watch be yellow …. above displayed orient watch is stylish eye catching and yet sober for daily use for work and party …….i wish i can grab the one ……
greetings…
I typically like black or blue dials, but that yellow looks really nice. I’ve just recently become aware of the Orient brand and that diver is definitely one that I could see owning. Thanks for the chance to win.
Blue is onne of my favorites. Mostly becauuse that is my favorite color and I like it.
Yellow is the new black. Gimme one, I need something more stylish than all these black watches!
Well, it’s all already been said before. The Blue Mako Diver is really classy and can be worn from work to play. But after seeing the yellow I’m beginning to have a new favorite. Kinda like a yellow mustang, out of the ordinary.
my favorite dial color is blue but on dive watches I lean towards yellow or orange
Love black. But orange is growing on me …
Yellow is my favorite color for a watch dial next only to Orange. For me, a yellow colored dial (just like Orange) expresses the wearer’s inclination to sport and I’m very active in sports. It is also very timely to have a watch with a yellow dial in my country because our new President and her late mom (who was also a President) were both identified to the yellow color.
