What is different about this Hamilton Seaview Automatic Diver watch? I thought about this question for a little while before writing anything down. I know I have seen the nautical almost art deco themed font used for the numbering before. The font is sort of an amalgamation of everything ocean-worthy and futuristic from 1920 -1970. Gently shaded, the large applied number totally make the watch. Without them it would be just another passable for forgettable Hamilton watch. The watch is pretty big too at 46mm wide, and the relatively small numbers on the rotating diver's bezel don't help the large wrist footprint. But that is OK, you want a nice looking watch like this to standout.
While it is has been hit and miss with me in regard to new Hamilton watches as of late, the volume sales leader for Swatch Group continues to push out a few good designs each year. I'd like to think that this is one of them. The case is PVD steel, but not all of it black. The bezel and face are however dark colored, and they play off the steel colored lugs and dial attachments (hands and indexes) really well. Another key feature to the good looks is the brown strap with a little bit of contrast stitching. I wouldn't have assumed the color combination went together well until I saw the final result. It gives it a very masculine "I don't care about fashion but still like to look good" design. The crystal is sapphire, and the watch is a true diver with 300 meters of water resistance. Inside is a sturdy ETA 2824-2 automatic mechanical movement that ought to work just fine in this watch. Best part is the price. At 645 euros retail, expect to see a US street price of $400 -$500.

The price you quote seems extraordinarily low for an ETA 2824-2 movement.
Great price, decent looking watch, silly strap. Why promote iot as a diver´s watch and attach what looks like an alligator strap (probably just structured leather…but still). Bracelet, rubber or textile would IMHO be the only alternative for a sports watch like this one.
What a nice, simple diving watch. My jury is still out on PVD, it’s usefulness on a watch (especially a sports watch), but the coloring sure works, as does the font. If they really wanted to kick it up a notch, they’d have matching fonts between the bezel and face. For $400, a well-styled true diving watch with an ETA is well within market price. If that’s the case when it hits the street, well-done Hammy!
645 Euros is $876. Not even close to $400. Do you do any fact checking before you write?
John, I think Ariel is correct – 645 Euros retail probably means about US$400 street price on a Hamilton.
Charles, it is quite simple, just use the converter at this site:
http://www.xe.com/ucc/convert.cgi and you will see how far off you both are. Ok guy. A few dollars is alright, but to actually show a number that is half of the real number, well that is moronic. Not saying you two are morons, just moronic.
Hey all,
My assessment of $400 – $500 for the price in the US is an estimate of the street price. This is based on what I have seen Hamilton watches go for based on a reduction from their “retail price.” So John, you are of course correct that this is not the correct conversion from the euro amount, but this is what I estimate. We will see what this versions ends up for. I anticipate it will be close to $500 or less. As for the other gentleman who thinks that this price is too low for an ETA 2824-2 movement – you have to remember that Swatch Group owns both ETA and Hamilton. Meaning that the movements don’t exactly need to be purchased. Thanks for the comments all.
Hey there,
I just wanted to let you know that if you return to the Hamilton Seaview watch article, you can see a little comment with an explanation on why the price is low. Thanks for commenting and take care.
That is an odd strap choice but I imagine it will be available with a rubber strap.
Is it 46mm excluding the crown? That’s pretty big.
Been looking for the thickness on this watch but cannot find it, 46mm sounds pretty big hopefully it isnt all that thick…
It should not be that thick. Maybe 14mm or under.
