Looking for a good deal these days on a new watch? Want something classic and Swiss? Want it to have a decent movement but don't want to pay too much? Well then Glycine might have just what you are looking for with the new watch Combat 6 watches - that come in two styles with a choice of automatic or manually wound movement. First is the Glycine Combat 6 Automatic, with a more subtle face in black or blue, classic Arabic numeral face, and the optional metal bracelet. There is also the more military style Glycine Combat 6 Manual watch with most of the same options, but just with a manually wound movement. I believe both movements are available in all the styles.
The watches are each in steel and 43mm wide. Larger than the vintage style they are modeled after. You can totally see some high-level military guys wearing one of these watches circa 1950 is "the war room." Looking at their watch and wondering what time it is in Moscow. "Do those commie bastards even sleep?!" Yes, yes they do.
For years Glycine has been making admirable pilot watches and a few nice diver's. The sink in the recent economy has hurt sales for all, and these lower prices watches are part of the answer. Design is really no frills. The watch dials are a breeze to read which is nice. The watch is only water resistant to 50 meters, which seems a bit low. What I really don't understand is why Glycine chose to use mineral crystals on the front and rear of the watches. Why no sapphire? Is it really that much more expensive. I guess so.
The Glycine Combat 6 Automatic has an ETA 2824-2 movement which is reliable and easy to live with. The Manual version has an ETA 2801-2. Each movement is Swiss and acceptable. I like the style of the metal bracelet. Looks like a jubilee style bracelet for the most part, and the back leather strap with contrast stitching is no joke either. Also, look at the dial and notice the seconds hands, they actually look like needles or pushpins, right? Retail price for the watch will be between $635 and $760 - less as a street price of course.

I’ve always liked Glycine. They’ve introduced some interesting dial designs in the last few years but also went up to 46-48mm on many watches, which is a bit too wall clock for me. These are a little on the plain side but a nice size.
