I waited months for this to arrive after pre-ordering it on Amazon.com. The day finally arrived last week, and I have to say that my waking moments are now consumed with this game; the first I have feverishly played in literally years. So as a corollary, I highly recommend playing Fallout 3.
Amazon.com offered the Fallout 3 Survival Edition. Which was one of three editions available (standard, collectors, and survival). The limited edition survival edition was the only that came with this fancy Pipboy 3000 replica. The Pipboy 3000 is part of the core mechanics of the game, which is worn on the character's wrist in the game. You spend a lot of time staring at the Pipboy 3000 and now I can spend, well a little bit less time staring at my own. The Pipboy 3000 replica features a large alarm clock style clock. It is actually more practical as a clock, thus coming with a stand to keep it upright being able to be used as a clock. The entire device is plastic with a weathered greenish gray tone to it. It is a nice look given plastic nature of the item.
The entire model can open but by a little click-lock so that you can fit your wrist in it. This is really cool, but it doesn't fit all that well unless you have that perfect combo of stocky, yet long arms. I'd suggest stuffing it with some soft material, maybe foam if you really want to use this as an everyday being. The three little buttons underneath the clock are used to adjust the time, and light up red when pressed. A nice touch. On the upper left hand corner the Pipboy 3000 has a player radiation meter. On the model, the radiation meter has been replaced by a working compass. I guess it wasn't that simple to insert a Geiger counter.
The clock itself is in green, and has a unique little twist to it. When the time is between 1-11(am or pm) the initial zero stays lit. So 2:30pm, would be shown as 02:30 (with the pm symbol small and in the corner). The box has some cool looking schematics but say "Deluxe Chronometer." Well us in the watch world know what that means, and this is not exactly a chronometer (officially certified for a particularly high level of accuracy by the COSC).
You can see me happily brandishing my Pipboy 3000 in the images below. It is a fun addition to my otherwise non forearm sized watches, and Iove having it as part of the large fan base of the Fallout series. I am sure there will be some of these popping up on eBay. Check out Fallout 3 if you have the time and want some post0apocolypitc good times.

after having the clock for about a week now; how do you feel about it?
looking at mine i find that i am a bit pissed off about it. i liked that the LED was bright and a good size; perfect when playing fallout 3 in the dark at 3 am wondering if i should sleep that day.
however the battery life on it is just a few days with mine. i just wondered if it was the same with yours.
I still like it a lot, but then again, I take it for what it is. Reading about what the Fallout 3 developers initially wanted to make, you can understand what went into the Pipboy 3000 replica, and how the end version was basically just a model when they wanted it to be part of the game. It is a clock, that you can wear on your wrist as a novelty.
Like you, I use it as a clock, and for that it works just fine. Oh, and as for the batteries, same thing happened to me. It shipped with some really cheap batteries, but after I replaced those I got more juice out of them. The bright LEDs take up a lot of juice… would have liked to been able and plugged it in. Regardless, don’t you just love to see the thing as it makes you smile after a long session of playing the game?
Yes I love it, I would never consider sending it back. however even tho it is a novelty it should still work longer than a week with fresh batteries. The only design flaw that I see is the bright LEDs and the battery life. I like that is bright and I can see it clearly when I am playing in the dark. I know their is a way to keep it that bright and still get a longer life off the batteries, I just don’t think they thought about it or wanted to invest in a better design.
I did end up modding it to run off AC power.

Hi there,
I haven’t owned it long enough to really determine its power consumption off of better batteries. I commented on your page regarding the mod you made. That is pretty cool. I am eyeing the Radio Shack across the street right now. I might need to make a visit there soon and makes some mods of my own.
But for everyone else that doesn’t understand the issue, the brightness of the LEDs suck up a lot of juice.
COULD YOU NOT GET IT MODDED TO HAVE LESS BRIGHT LED’s THATS A GOOD THING BETHASDA HAVE DONE I CURRENTLY OWN IT ON XBOX 360 AND PC BUT I PREFER IT ON PC….
Getting dimmer LEDs in there would be really hard. I think the best thing to do would be for them to release an external AC adapter. That would be ideal.
I WANT 1 WHERE CAN I JUST GET THE PIPBOY i bought the limited edition
Hi there,
These are all sold out, but you can still find some on eBay. Check them out here:

Thanks for reading.
How big is the area on the screen for that thing?
I kind of want to mod it to fit my iPod touch w/ the Fallout theme..
Interesting idea, I like it! I am looking at the device right now, and you could probably do it depending on your modding skills. The ’screen’ area is 3.3 inches tall by 2.5 inches wide. There looks to be just enough room inside the device, but you’ll need to get fancy with the rotary (Dremmel) tool to make it happen. So if you got the right skills you can make it happen. Certainly come show me about it please!
hey, how cool would it be if they came out with a PSP case that was a pipboy 3000? you could click it onto your wrist and it would be able to do alot more than the one bethesda made….
That would be really cool. I am about to review a Timex Expedition WS4 which reminds me a bit of what it would be like if there was a real PipBoy like device available.
There is clearly a market for a wifi pipboy 3000, i would pay about the same as for a gameboy ds- wich tells me bethesta is not making the money they could…
i would make it a frestanding platform with a greenscreen led screen, a arm cpu, and a minor amount of memory, but with the room for a microsd card, or maybe a flash card depending on whats cheapest, point beeing it would show you stuff like a map when you need it, a song or two, and radio. just like the pip boy, you could actually add a health monitor because it could have a stepcounter and a hartbeatmonitor, all these things dont cost the world to build in to a device, but to fallout fans it would be THE item to own.
I recently updated the Touch by using Jailbreak and added a Pipboy Theme to it. Even cooler.
Hey, I also came from your mod on that site, and read your article. The replica Pipboy 3000 seems pretty cool, and I also see room for improvement. The reason why I’m posting this is because I was wondering what you paid for it?
Thanks
Hi there,
The unit is pretty cool, but not perfect because it was not designed for the masses. Pretty cool though. I didn’t buy it separately as it came included with a special Amazon.com edition of Fallout 3. I am sure you can find a few of the just the Pipboy 3000 replica clocks on eBay.
DUDE.. I so need one of those… A few of my buddies keep telling me I look like Pip-Boy and this halloween am going as Pip-Boy (complete with vault dweller jumpsuit) and one of those would be perfect!! You need to post instructions on how to make that…
